Woody climber. Main stem with large hooks, glabrous, light grey, twining in trees and shrubs. Leaves linear, needle-like, very long, in fascicles.

Suffrutex with a tendency to climb in other shrubs and trees. Main stems light to dark brown, smooth, with a large hook at each node, much branched, lateral stems many, armed. Leaves needle-like, long, in fascicles of 3-5 on the lateral shoots, fascicles far apart. Flowers and fruit absent.

Annual herb. Flowers trumpet shaped, white with purple markings. Leaves opposite, thinly textured, dark green.

Herb; Notes: Annual herb, 40 - 60 cm high. Flowers pastel purple with dark purple stripes, in terminal racemes. Leaves alternate, palmate, with 5 - 7 leaflets, leaflets linear, long. Stems erect, green, glandular, round, mostly unbranched. Whole plant sticky glandular, with a pungent smell. Frequent on roadverge.

25 cm high; Herb; Notes: Annual herb, 25 cm high. Flowers small, blue, spathe valves fused at the base, bracts sparsely covered with bristly hairs. Leaves elliptic, scabrid, tapering into a long narrow cylinder at the base, ochna with red bristles along the margins. Stems erect, hairy, green. White sand. Under trees in shade.

Geophyte; Notes: Geophyte, up to 1 m above ground. Stems floppy, unbranched, round. Leaves sessile, glossy green, lanceolate, tips transformed into tendrils. Flowers large, showy, held upside down like a lantern, tepals reflexed, red, yellow at the base filaments green. Black clay. Occasional. Voucher for photograph.

60 cm high; Suffrutex; Notes: Suffrutex, 60 cm high. Flowers in a terminal raceme, small, deep purple. Leaves compound, trifoliolate, stipules present. Stems erect, green, hairy. Voucher for photograph. Very attractive when in flower. Would make a good garden plant. Scattered but localized, in Omuramba.

Geophyte, 0.30 m above ground. Berries orange to red, in a dense umbel, scape fleshy. Leaves large, oval, held erect and apressed against the scape, shiny, green, undulating, base amplexicaul.

Leaves compound, paripinnate, with 7 - 8 pairs of leaflets per leaf, leaflets small, densely hairy below, apex pointed. Fruit spiny, round, segmented. Stems prostrate to ascending, maroon to light brown. White sandy loam, limestone gravel, cleared roadverge. Common.
